What is a manicure?
A manicure is a beauty treatment for our hands. We use our hands everyday and we're not always gentle with them. The covid-19 pandemic has been especially harsh on our hands. The need for excess hand washing and sanitising will be taking a toll on our skin. So taking extra care of our hands and nails is vital to keeping them healthy.
A manicure will usually consist of: shaping the free edge of your nails, pushing back your cuticles, a gentle hand and arm massage finished with a polish or gel polish of your choice. If however, you fancy a little more pampering a luxury manicure will do all of this plus exfoliation, warm moisture mask with heated mitts or alternatively a paraffin wax heat treatment (depending on salon preference) before your relaxing massage. It is divine, and really gets the hairs on the back of your neck standing.
Did you know, you can upgrade your nail enhancement appointment to include all the best bits of a manicure too? Just ask about upgrades. Book online here.
Acrylic Nails
Basic science lesson: Acrylic nails are a combination mix of liquid monomer, and powdered polymer. Once combined a chemical reaction occurs hardening the mix as it is applied to the natural nail or extension. Acrylic nails air dry and harden without the use of UV/LED lamps.
Acrylic is readily available in many different colours and glitter combos, which is what makes them so popular and exciting. The possibilities of design are truly endless and you can really create unique bespoke nails for every client.
"The Kaeso ethos is to combine naturally derived ingredients with essential treatment formulas to deliver quality professional products. All products are free from Parabens, Sulphates, Propylene Glycol and Mineral Oil and avoids any harsh chemicals." - Kaeso. 2021

Acrylic nails FAQ's
How long do acrylic nails last?
This depends largely on how well you care for them. Providing your nail technician has applied your new acrylic nails professionally and correctly your nails should last a minimum of 2-3 weeks. However, it is recommended that you maintain your nails on the advice of your nail tech. This may differ from client to client due to the speed of nail growth and some health factors. It should always be advised that you also care for your nails at home - keep them clean and dry (wash up with gloves), don't use them as tools to open things, avoid chemical exposure (bleach/cleaning products) and generally be aware of them to avoid hurting yourself.
Do acrylic nails ruin your natural nails?
No, but they can is the short answer. Acrylic nails shouldn't damage your natural nails if applied correctly by a skilled professional. It is very easy to cause severe damage to your natural nail or surrounding skin. This why it is important that you always seek a professional that has the necessary training.
Regular maintenance is also advised to avoid damage caused by imbalance or lifting. Acrylic nails should always be removed by a professional, because picking off your nails or waiting too long between infills can seriously damage your natural nails as well as not following aftercare advice.
If in doubt, ask a professional.
Do nail's need to breathe?
No, nails don't breathe. Your nails are made up of dead keratin cells (learn more here). However, it is advisable to take a break every 3-6 months from nail treatments such as acrylics, gel nails and polishes. This is to allow your natural nails to regain strength and avoid long term dehydration from the exposure to acetone, and polishes. Conditions such as keratin granulation, or nail discolouration may occur due to long term exposure and can be avoided by breaks in your treatments. There may be some tell tale signs your nail tech will notice if your nails are in need of a break to rejuvenate. If you are concerned in anyway ask your tech or pop me a message.
