Gel Polish Manicure
Quick science lesson: Gel polish is a mix of semi-solid monomers and oligomers that react to UV light and harden into a polymer in a process called curing. It is applied similar to a regular polish however it usually needs a base coat as well as a top coat during the application process. A UV/LED lamp is needed for a gel manicure because gel polish does not air dry and UVA light is needed for the chemical reaction to occur.
Gel Polish FAQ's
How long does gel polish last?
A good gel polish nail set should last you around 2-3 weeks before you will be needing a polish change due to growth. A gel polish pedicure will last slightly longer as your toe nails grow slower then your fingernails. This however, will depend on how well you care for them. Always follow your nail techs aftercare advise to get the most out of you gel polish manicure/pedicure. Try to keep your nails clean and dry, avoid picking your gel polish when it starts to grow out. Avoid chemical exposure from cleaning products and bleaches. Some hand sanitisers may also affect the colour and strength of your polish.
Does gel ruin your natural nails?
No, but picking your gel polish off will definitely damage your natural nail. Also if you are untrained in gel polish you may cause damage to you own nails by miss use of professional products or using the wrong products entirely. You should always have your nails done by a professional with the correct training. Check my availability and book online here.
Do you do shellac nails?
Shellac is actually a brand name of CND's (Creative Nail Design) hybrid nail polish. It is a patented hybrid mix of nail polish and gel. Whereas in the salon we use gel polish. Gel polish is unbranded however, there are many brands that sell gel polish.
